自首张专辑“Chapter I：A New Beginning”的发行后，魔法兄弟受到了欢迎，在欧洲、中东、东南亚及北美，这个年轻男孩乐团都得到了金唱片和白金唱片的好成绩。“自从上张专辑受到欢迎后，我们便被贴上了Popband的标签……”吉他手Scott Moffatt解释了曲风的转变，“我们的确是写了很多的流行歌，也同样地得到很好的销售成绩，但这张专辑是表现出我们身为专业音乐人的时候了。Submodalitie充份地表达出真实的我们，其中我们也受到了U2、Radiohead、Beatles、Beach Boys及Nirvana的一些影响。这就是Moffatt-Music，同时具有商业性、大胆尝试及冒险的趣味。”
果然这四位兄弟在沉疾一段时间之后，改装重新给歌迷一个大惊喜，除了努力创作外，新专辑中动人的抒情曲“Always in my heart”和“Who do you love”、另类、流行及摇滚等元素，相信都不辜负歌迷们的长久引领企盼。“Submodalities”对这个乐团来说是个很大的进步。其实他们在1992年时便制作了“It's a wonderful world”并纳许维尔当地发行，接着在1995年时又发行了“The Moffatts”，以他们喜爱的Nirvna及Silverchair作模范，向流行摇滚（Pock/Pop）的方向努力。
Moffatts的转变可以从他们的第一首单曲“Bang Bang Boom”看出，其他如“California”、“Typical”、“I don't want you to want me”、“Life on mars”以及“Call the doctor”都可发现他们尝试结合流行曲风及吉他摇滚的用心。在作曲、风格及声音的多样化也开创了一个新的领域，像专辑中“Walking Behind”的吉他摇滚、富有感情的“Antifreeze and Airplanes”到“Spy”里大胆尝试progressive-rock，足见这几个少年在音乐创作上的进步和新专辑的可听性。一个视觉上Image的改变也反映在专辑标题上：“Clint读到了一本叫Using your head for a change的书，他觉得Submodalities这个字很好，所以便提议可用来作为新专辑的标题，它表达了我们的音乐，也代表了我们。”
在发行“A New Beginning”时，魔法兄弟的音乐内容及主题都还不脱典型的Teenage Rock范畴，但“Submodalities”却朝向成为一张不受时空影响的专辑方向努力，有着易感人的旋律歌词、敏锐的吉他伴奏及富变化的节奏，除了他们的青少年歌迷之外，他们最希望的，应该是也赢得摇滚乐们给予讚赏吧！
